Bird Life

Bird Life, open edition artist's book by Judith Hoffman
Bird Life - ©2009 - 2.75 inches high. Open edition. The original drawing was scanned and resized in Photoshop. I used a Canon Pixma inkjet printer to print it on either Wassau Cottonwood or Balsa. The cover is museum board and Thai banana paper. This is an open edition.

The story is a visual narrative, proceeding from left to right. The road, fence and sidewalk flow through the drawing to carry the eye along. I love watching the birds in our yard. We don't put out seeds for them because there are many neighbor cats. But I do grow perennials that produce lots of seeds in the fall. Goldfinches eat sunflower leaves in the summer. Bushtits and Juncos eat seeds from our Katsura tree. Bird's lives can seem idyllic at times, but also very stressful.
